For more than six decades, Georg Baselitz has been exploring, challenging and redefining contemporary art, with his main focus on painting. The complex exchange with historical and contemporary art forms a cornerstone of his work. Georg Baselitz. Füße zuerst focuses on the German artist's relationship to the work of Edvard Munch, with whom he has been engaged in an artistic dialogue since the 1960s. Richly illustrated and with texts by the curator of the exhibition Jon-Ove Steihaug as well as Christian Weikop, Sverre Wyller and the artist himself, including a lengthy interview.

Georg Baselitz (*1938, Deutschbaselitz) is without a doubt one of the most influential painters and sculptors of our time. His work eludes easy categorization, but has continuously returned to his search for a new approach to updating classic figurative painting. In a celebrated turning point in 1969, he literally turned his paintings upside down and thereby managed to change the public's viewing habits, and to sharpen their perceptions.
