Repository Policy

Hatje Cantz supports the secondary publication of scholarly contributions by its authors under the following conditions:

Consent from all rights holders:
For edited volumes, the consent of the editors and, if applicable, any additional contributors must be obtained before a contribution can be published in a repository.

Embargo period:
For paid publications, an embargo period of 12 months from the publication date of the print edition applies. After this period, the chapter may be made publicly accessible.

Versions:
Authors are permitted to use the publisher’s version (PDF).

Citation requirements:
Each secondary publication must include the following information:

  • Complete bibliographic reference, including editor(s), book title, and page numbers
  • Copyright notice (e.g. © Hatje Cantz Verlag, [year])
  • DOI link or: active link to the Hatje Cantz webshop

Open Access publications:
Authors of Open Access chapters may freely share the publisher’s version, provided that:

  • The applicable Creative Commons license is clearly indicated, and
  • The publication includes a link to the Hatje Cantz product page or the DOI.

Usage restrictions:
Content from paid e-books may only be used for personal academic purposes – not for redistribution, modification, or commercial use. Full attribution of authorship and source is mandatory.

Complete works:
The publication of entire books is not permitted while a paid e-book edition is available. However, we are happy to offer tailored Open Access solutions for complete works – please contact us to discuss this.
