Anni Albers (1899, Berlin-1994, Orange, CT) was a German- American textile designer, artist, weaver, and printmaker. She entered the Bauhaus Weimar in 1922 and received her diploma in 1930. After the National Socialists came to power in 1933, she emigrated to the USA with her husband Josef Albers. There she taught at the newly founded Black Mountain College art school. From the 1950s onwards, she worked in Connecticut as a freelance textile artist; in 1965-66 she designed the large-format Holocaust memorial Six Prayers, commissioned by the Jewish Museum, New York
