Creating works of art that are indistinguishable from reality has always been a challenge. With around 150 works from the Old Masters to the present day, this exhibition spanning different eras shows that "illusion" means far more than just deceiving the eye. In view of the power of illusionist images, it also sheds light on our society against the backdrop of fake news and artificial intelligence. The catalog examines the different facets of the term "illusion". In addition to four essays, the exhibited works are commented on in detail. Literary excerpts and quotes, for example from Leon Battista Alberti, Edgar Allen Poe, André Breton, Sigmund Freud and Thomas Brasch, underline the positions and emphasize the interdisciplinary nature of the topic.
