Tom Wesselmann is besides Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg and Claes Oldenburg one of the most prominent artists of the American Pop Art who had their international breakthrough at the beginning of the 1960's and gained popularity almost like no other art trend of the post-war time. Wesselmann, born in Cinncinati/Ohio in 1931, has worked already since the 1950's mostly with collages including found objects and elements of publicity. Since the early 1980's he has concentrated on his »metal-drawings« and »-paintings«: partly mechanically or cut out of aluminium and sheet steel with the laser beam, they show three- dimensionally and in shining colours the quick impression of the sketches and drawings underlying. Approximately 100 of the most important partly up to now never exhibited works of all stages are shown in this publication. (German edition out of print.)
