Her "trade mark" is plasticine. For Leni Hoffmann the attraction of this banal material is that it is so widely known and available, not already "imbued" with lofty artistic ideals and with a particular resonance for all of us since our earliest days in Kindergarten. Used in considerable quantities to form large planes, it develops unusual qualities and effects. Leni Hoffmann's installations cover interior and exterior house-walls, window panes, roofs, stair-treads or chairs, cars, asphalt roads, bridge planks - spatial interventions creating intuitive new proportions and masses. These kneaded surfaces - organically structured by the artist's fingers and hands - reveal and activate the architectonic and natural features of the surroundings. This sumptuous artist's book presents a selection of the artist's work since 1993 as well as future projects. The artist: Leni Hoffmann, born in Bad Pyrmont. 1982-1987 Studied at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Nürnberg, 1987: Master pupil under G.K. Pfahler. 1996: Visiting professor at the Nürnberg Academy and on the staff of the Gesamthochschule in Kassel. 1989- 1996: numerous scholarships and awards; exhibitions in Germany, France, Switzerland and Australia.
