| Installations by the Czech space and text artist
Ján Mancuška (1972–2011) employed text and film in his three-dimensional works. He generally included the venue architecture in his installations and arranged the linguistic or visual fragments in such a way that he created a very specific mode of observation for each of his works. Their reception depended on the way the observer moved through the space or in relation to the works of art. Mancuška’s objects, interiors, and visual sentences created a dramatic narrative, which the viewer mentally condenses into fictitious, cinematic sequences. In 2005 the artist represented the Czech Republic at the Venice Biennale, and he also exhibited at the 4th Berlin Biennale, among other places. This publication is the first survey of his work.
