The mostly abstract oeuvre of Belgian painter Raoul De Keyser (*1930 in Deinze) has met with resounding international approval since the eighties. This monograph presents works from a creative period lasting for more than forty years.
De Keyser’s painting has been influenced by the modernism of the postwar years: although his compositions are reserved and austere, and make reference to Color Field painting and Minimalism, they are nevertheless extraordinarily poetic. The artist is a sovereign of painting who does not concentrate on cultivating a specific style, but rather explores the entire field of painting and its expressive possibilities. De Keyser’s mono- or dichromatic arrangements, his abstract formal compositions and citations from everyday life and nature illustrate the broad field of painterly possibilities as well as their constantly expanding boundaries.
