Raised amid the propaganda of Ceausescu’sRomania, Adrian Ghenie (*1977) has created quite a stir in art circles due to his extremely unique compositions and stupendous technique. In his visual journeys, he confidently navigates through representational and abstract art, his grand narrative style affording the viewer a look at his interpretation of history: power and its abuse, forced exile and migration are Ghenie’s important themes. He combines them with material boldly borrowed from art and film history, creating compelling worlds of images from which it is difficult to escape. A series of large-scale exhibitions in 2010 will make it possible to more thoroughly examine the artist’s working methods and pictorial language. This monograph presents a selection of paintings produced over the past four years.Exhibition schedule: Haunch of Venison, London, May 4– July 25, 2009 · Muzeul National de Arta Contemporana, Bucharest, November 2009 – Januar 2010 · Afterwards S.M.A.K. Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst, Ghent · Hammer Museum, Los Angeles
