Having completed his studies in marine biology, Leipzig-based photographer and conceptual artist Maix Mayer (*1960 in Leipzig) went on to study photography under Astrid Klein at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig. In his bizarre projects, which must be categorized somewhere between photography, film, and installation, Mayer uses found objects and personal experience as starting points in his attempt to develop a hyperrealistic world view. With their focus on the conceptual and abstract, these latest works take on an additional poetic aesthetic. This is the first book to comprehensively document all of Mayer’s creations of the last decade, each of which is explained in a short text, while a longer essay and an interview with the artist provide further insight.Exhibition schedule: Galerie EIGEN+ART, Leipzig, January 19–April 19, 2008
