"...acrobatic images of extraordinary boldness..." Rudi Fuchs

The Austrian artist Christian Ludwig (*1940 in Bratislava) spent a part of his childhood in Attersee and subsequently incorporated the Austrian lake's name into his pseudonym. Having attracted attention with sarcastic and bizarre images of the world of consumer goods during the sixties, he was one of the promoters of the return to painting at documenta 6 in 1977 and represented his country at the Venice Biennale in 1984. Attersee, who received the Great Austrian State Award for Art in 1997, has also made himself a name beyond painting in the areas of sailing, design, music, literature, stage design, and film. While tracing Attersee's development as an artist with reference to some of his most significant works, this book also focuses largely on a group of recent canvases in which he explores the area between free-flowing, informal painting and the narrative power of figurative art.
