Paul Klee (1879-1940) was one of the truly outstanding artists of the early twentieth century. The Zentrum Paul Klee in Berne will open its doors in June 2005. Thanks to generous donations and loans from the founding Klee and Müller families, the former Paul Klee Foundation, and numerous private collectors, the Center will have the world's largest collection of paintings, watercolors, and drawings by Paul Klee, complemented by archival and biographical materials covering the artist's entire career-some four thousand items in all. Housed in a new building designed by Renzo Piano, the Zentrum Paul Klee will thus be firmly established as a leading Klee museum and a center of expertise on Paul Klee's art, his theoretical and educational writings, and the history of his popular and critical reception. This richly illustrated, luxurious volume is scheduled for publication in conjunction with the opening of the Zentrum Paul Klee-a milestone in the study and presentation of Paul Klee's art. The book traces the development of the collection and highlights the contributions of the many people involved in this ambitious project.
