A practical and informative guide to the diverse architectural landscape of the Vorarlberg region of Austria.
Vorarlberg is today regarded as a regional center of contemporary architecture in Europe. Instrumental in bringing about this phenomenon was a relatively small group of independent architects who, in the eighties, became well-known as "Vorarlberger Baukünstler" with innovative houses and housing developments. Starting from this core, by the nineties the scene had grown considerably, and a series of project competitions newly influenced the public, commercial, and industrial building responsibilities. ì This volume, for the first time available in English, documents this development comprehensively, presenting 260 buildings and mentioning 220. With newly designed general maps, 420 photos, 200 plans and many useful facts, it above all serves as a handy travel guide to these objects - in the specific framework of their structural and scenic surroundings.
