'Armani' means more than just beautiful clothes: it has become a myth in its own right. But can this be captured through photography? To mark the 25th anniversary of the label, the New York Guggenheim Museum invited 25 leading fashion photographers to present their visions of 'Armani'. The photographers included many illustrious members of the profession: from David Bailey, Pamela Hanson, Peter Lindbergh, Raymond Meier, Herb Ritts, and Paolo Roversi to Ellen von Unwerth and more. These names alone point to the immensely wide-ranging spectrum of attitudes and visions in the resulting photographs: some photographers chose to give their work a surreal air, others created rigorously formal pieces, while yet others concentrated on producing apparently spontaneous snapshots. Naturally many also highlighted the erotic qualities of Armani's cutting and materials. This volume of photographs presents all the works made for the occasion, which in turn provide a unique overview of important currents and trends in fashion photography today. Exhibition Schedule: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York 20.10.2000-17.1.2001 · Guggenheim Museum Bilbao 13.3.-26.8.2001
