In the past decades, the border areas between photography and film have emerged as an important field of contemporary photographic art. Well-known exponents include the American artist Cindy Sherman with her "Film Stills", a series of black- and-white self portraits evoking film stills from the forties and fifties both in form and contents, or the Australian Sam Taylor- Wood, whose photographic panoramas - up to ten metres long - forge oppressing interpersonal dramas from individual pictures, not unlike the segments of unrolled film scrolls. With works by 34 international artists, this book is the first dedicated to a growing artistic fascination. Based on the observation that at the beginning of the 21st century the history of the moving picture is at an end and yielding fast to the reality of accelerated information, the book bridges the gap between the "classical" positions of photography in the eighties and nineties to the highly complex Internet pieces fed by media film and photography. (English edition ISBN 3-7757-1050-7) The artists: Doug Aitken, Matthew Barney, Henry Bond, Tacita Dean, Ed van der Elsken, Twin E Gabriel, Douglas Gordon, Roni Horn, Pierre Huyghe, William Klein, Sharon Lockhart, Mariko Mori, Claudio Moser, Thomas Ruff, Cindy Sherman, Lorna Simpson, Sam Taylor-Wood, Jeff Wall, Christopher Williams and others
