An artist´s book totally conceived and designed by Urs Lüthi on his computer - and as such the book reflects in a truly direct way Lüthi´s pictorial ideas. The book´s central theme is the satirizing of global leisure culture.
Urs Lüthi´s oeuvre consists of work cycles which interpret his basic themes in various kinds of ways. Thus, in the late sixties and early seventies, even before the advent of role-specific gender discussion, the artist focussed his works on the role play between man and woman. In his recent treatment of global leisure culture, Lüthi deals with so-called holidaymaker´s paradises and leisure mania. His photographic pictures, processed on the computer, are accompanied by text pictures which are equally found on classical tableaux and other objects such as frisbee discs. Additionally, the pictures are reproduced on standard mugs like those used in clubs or at the working place. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE, from the series Placebos and Surrogates, is a book which has been conveived and designed on the computer from the first to the last page by the artist Urs Lüthi himself. It is a genuine artist´s book, reflecting Lüthi´s pictorial ideas in an immediate way, with the picture data transferred directly from the computer to the printing press. The artist: Urs Lüthi, born 1947 at Lucerne, Switzerland. Professor at the University of Fine Arts at Kassel. Lives mostly in Munich since 1983.
