Presenting current projects by the German government in the fields of architecture, art, town planning and area planning.
The second volume of this yearbook, issued by the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning, Bonn, presents current projects by the German government in the fields of architecture and art, town planning and area planning. The first section focuses on various constructions built abroad by the Federal Government, especially embassy and school buildings, such as the German Embassy in Peking, which was designed by Kammerer, Belz, Kucher and Partner, and the German School in Peking, a project by architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partner. In many cases the architects themselves introduce the history of their design and building, and present their constructions - illustrated by a large number of photographs and plans. The second section of the yearbook concentrates on planning and buildings in Berlin, and includes essays on the Federal President's residence, the Neue Wache and Museumsinsel which provide information on the varied kinds of reconstruction in Germany's new political centre. The book is rounded off by individual scholarly essays and a text on the Federal Government's Coin Competitions (10 years of German reunification, 50 years of Basic Law, Expo 2000).
