Colorful worlds with a critical message
Distressingly cutesy worlds, surreal narratives and tipping points - in the works of artist Rachel Maclean, we sometimes encounter adorable babies alongside faceless mothers or deepfake Hollywood stars in an action-packed battle for reality. With her immersive installations, the artist takes us into alternative universes where sweetness turns into horror and where perspective becomes questionable.

This catalog is published on the occasion of the exhibitions if it looks like a duck... at Kunstpalais Erlangen (2023) and Mama Mimi Duck at Kunsthalle Giessen (2024) and brings them back to life with spectacular imagery. For the first time, a monograph brings together Rachel Maclean's most recent works since the early 2020s, providing insights into a cunning play with perception and reality.

Rachel Maclean (*1987 in Edinburgh) lives and works in Glasgow. After studying at Edinburgh College of Art, her work has been exhibited internationally, including in New Zealand, China, Germany, Australia and the USA. In 2017, she represented Scotland at the 57th Biennale di Venezia.
