Am I allowed to use this image or not? No one who wants to publish on the subject of art can avoid this question. Whether it's a book, journals, or digital formats—image use is almost always a complicated matter in art historical practice. To help identify and overcome the numerous legal traps, the Deutsche Verband für Kunstgeschichte e.V. (Association of German Art Historians) has produced this guide. In a short, concise and easy-to-understand manner, basic knowledge of copyright law is conveyed, and practical assistance is provided. In addition, the volume has a glossary of important terms and flowcharts that visualize the procedure in various scenarios.

Since its founding in 1948, the DEUTSCHE VERBAND FÜR KUNSTGESCHICHTE E.V. has represented the interests of all those who work in art history in Germany—whether at universities, museums, in the preservation of historical monuments, or in many other fields. As a professional association, it takes a stand on political decisions, organizes the Art Historians' Day, which takes place every two years, and offers the opportunity for further education in practice-relevant topics in various workshops.
