In her more recent still lifes, Semotan processes an experience that holds great interest for her. Here more than in many of her other works, her pictures reveal what is most important to the artist: paying tribute to objects that mean something to her and are a part of her or her surroundings. Though aware that the objects she chooses to depict are of no special aesthetic value, she has still decided to capture them. Their unique presence and the aura surrounding them are dependent on light and shadow. With them, their supposed insignificance suddenly falls away.
