In central Copenhagen, on the sixth floor of what is today the Radisson Collection Hotel's Royal Copenhagen, one single room contains a microcosmos of design history. Room 606 is the last surviving original interior of the SAS Royal Hotel designed by the Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen. Complete in 1960, this modernist icon marks the acme of his influence. Jacobsen himself designed each and every detail, from the green and blue color palette and new furniture such as the legendary egg and swan chairs, to fabrics, lamps, and even dining utensils. This book offers a unique view of Jacobsen's work, with the time capsule of room 606 as the lens through which the entire span of his career can be observed and the connections to his other works can be traced. A lost mid-century masterpiece is reconstructed here, using hundreds of archival photos as well as original drawings and sketches.

ARNE JACOBSEN (1902-1971) was one of the twentieth century's most outstanding architects, and dissolved the boundaries separating architecture, interior design, and industrial design. Buildings by the Danish architect are total works of art that combine architecture and design, functionalism and esthetic quality.
