A photo of the book Home Is a Foreign Place by Sandra Knecht, shown at an angle on a white background. The book has a bright yellow cover and spine. The cover features a dark, blurry photograph of a city street at night, with a person with long blonde hair seen from behind and streaks of light. The title appears in a white graffiti-style font at the top, and the author's name is in black at the bottom.
The front cover of a bright yellow book standing against a white background. In the center is an intricate, spiky black logo in a style typical of black metal bands. The initials K.B.H.G are printed in black at the bottom.
An overhead shot of an open book with a yellow cover. The left page has a black background with bold, white German text reading Sauerteigbrot, Alpenbutter, Patti Smith, and a black-and-white photo of a dog with glowing eyes. The right page is white and features the beginning of an interview in German with Hans Ulrich Obrist.
An open photobook displays a two-page spread. On the left, a dark, motion-blurred photo shows a person dancing amidst trails of red and green light. On the right is a bright, sharp close-up of a rooster's head, featuring a large, jagged red comb and wattles against a chicken wire fence.
An open book on a white background. The left page features a grainy, black-and-white photograph of a classical statue of a nude woman in a pensive pose. The right page displays a color photograph of a vast, rugged coastline with blue-green water and waves crashing onto a sandy beach under a cloudy sky.
The book cover for Home is a Foreign Place by Sandra Knecht. On the left is a blurry, sepia-toned photo of a long, empty institutional hallway. The right side is white, featuring the title in both a bold print font and a scratchy handwritten script, along with the author's name and the publisher, Hatje Cantz.
A two-page magazine spread. The left page has German text. The right page shows a person in a striped shirt and patterned pants leaning over a black blender filled with chopped green herbs. Behind them, a black electric bicycle is parked indoors on a wooden floor.
A collage-style image. On the left, a photo shows a woman in a rustic kitchen standing near a large black goat that is eating from a bowl. On the right is a black background with white text that reads Mac and Cheese, Orange, Brot, and VALERIE SOLANAS, with a small, blurry photo of a dark landscape in between.
A poster for an event, split into two vertical sections. The left shows a nighttime photo of a goat grazing on grass next to a large tree, with a red bench behind it. The right side is white with black text announcing DURCH DIE NACHT im Kin Dee mit Gregor Hildebrandt, Berlin 24. Mai 2023.
A diptych juxtaposing two distinct images. On the left, a close-up color photograph of the tan and white furry hindquarters of an animal, possibly a goat, at night against a dark background with dry branches. On the right, a grainy, black-and-white image of a classical stone statue of a woman tenderly holding a child.
A diptych image. On the left is a black and white 3D scan of a bird, showing its detailed skeleton and feathers against a black background. On the right is a top-down photo of a blue corn taco with fried potato sticks and guacamole on an orange plate, set on red tiles.
A two-panel image comparing a person with long hair and a mustache to a black-and-white MRI scan of a human head. A small fox with glowing eyes has been digitally added inside the brain portion of the MRI scan.
A page layout with two columns. The left column is white with German text. The right column is black with large, bold, white text that reads VIRGINIE DESPENTES. Within the black column are two photos: one of a fleshy-pink abstract sculpture on concrete, and another of a large pumpkin pushing through a wire fence.
A split image showing two scenes. On the left, a bowl of smoking incense next to a plate with two white rectangular food items. On the right, a dimly lit, intimate close-up of one person kissing another on the cheek.
An image is split into two vertical sections. On the left, a rooster with extravagant brown, orange, and cream plumage and a large, fluffy crest on its head stands on dirt with its back to the camera. On the right, on a white background, is a tracklist for a mixtape titled ARABIAN NIGHTS, listing 27 artists.

Sandra Knecht is a Swiss conceptual and performance artist whose themes revolve around identity and home. Her practice encompasses cooking, photography, film, installation, and performance. For almost ten years she has been investigating the concept of home—geographically, historically, sociologically, philosophically, and culinarily. Her long-term research has resulted in an artist's book that presents the new photographic work group Tschinn and an unusual documentation of her work, drawing on her extensive image archive. For Knecht, home is an unknown place that constantly feeds her artistic imagination, and which must be continually questioned and renegotiated.

Sandra Knecht (*1968) worked as a social pedagogue for 25 years before deciding to work primarily as an artist. She studied at the Zurich University of the Arts from 2011 to 2014. Since then, she has participated in national and international exhibitions. She lives near Basel with her animals.
