The Magic of Soft and Colorful Sounds
How much Walter would love to be a tree full of bright colors and diverse songs! But the big black birds are so loud that he can't hear the soft voices of his small, colorful feathered friends. The world around Walter feels gray and monotonous. When the black birds grow hoarse and peace settles in, a little bird notices that Walter, the tree, has become completely still. Has he fallen asleep? The little bird comes up with a wonderful idea: By all the small birds singing their colorful song together, they can bring Walter back to life.

Inspired by a quote from Walter Gropius, this joyful picture book about unity, diversity, and the vibrant power of quiet voices invites (pre-)reading and communal chattering. It shows young readers that much can be achieved together—even when everyone is different.

Created in collaboration with the Bauhaus Archive Museum, it offers plenty of information about the Bauhaus and its artists, along with a child-friendly explanation of the stamping technique.

Rose Apple has organized numerous exhibitions, books, workshops, and illustrated worlds, always learning: creativity needs openness and a playful spirit! She especially enjoys working with children. This is her first picture book.
