IN MEMORIAM EGIDIO MARZONA

With deep sorrow, we bid farewell to Egidio Marzona, who passed away on March 15, 2026.

Marzona revolutionized the art of collecting by bestowing as much significance upon the "small things" as he did the "great." His unique assembly of ephemera is a treasure that makes art and its contemporary context tangibly experienceable. He was a free-thinker, a visionary, and a patron of the arts; legendary for his Archiv der Avantgarden, which he gifted to the city of Dresden. Large portions of his collection continue to enrich the museum landscape of Berlin. Most recently, he established the Marzona Foundation Neue Saalecker Werkstätten, which seeks to transform the "uncomfortable monument" of the Saalecker Werkstätten into a space of contemporary culture through critical reappraisal and the activities of the Design Akademie Saaleck.

With gratitude and a deep sense of connection, we remember his last visit to our publishing house on Mommsenstraße. There, Egidio Marzona—true to the "old school" and a lifelong lover of paper—personally reviewed the printed galley proofs of the dieDASdocs, the new publication series of the Design Akademie.
