The theme of this publication is "territory" in all of its various manifestations. The introduction by Catherine David and Jean-François Chevrier is followed by an essay of Milan architect Stefano Boeri on the complexity of the city in our time. Albert Pinkvohs' city planning sketches and the reflections of Rhea Thönges and Johannes Stüttgen on Joseph Beuys' 7000 Eichen project focus upon the urban structure of the city of Kassel. Alongside photographs of Berlin by Erik Bullot, with commentaries by the philosopher Michael Wetzel, the book also presents an essay on Jerusalem by the Israeli art historian Ariella Azoulay. Film exposés by Raoul Peck of Haiti and the African artist Abderrahmane Sissako de-scribe regions that lie between Russia and Africa, Haiti and Germany. Notes from Los Angeles, socially and culturally one of the most explosive of western metropolises, complement the broad range of insights into the territories of our world. Inserts of artworks by Bustamante, Crandall, Grossarth, Mucha, Orozco and Walde make this volume not only an intellectual adventure but a pleasureful visual voyage as well.
