Granular=Synthesis and gelatin have represented Austria at the Venice Biennale 2001. The two groups have in common that they make the creative process tangible, to be experienced physically. Granular=Synthesis are pioneers with respect to audiovisual media, having devoted themselves to the merging of picture and sound for ten years. An essential part of their artistic practice is the development of software enabling them to play video as an intuitive instrument. With their almost symphonic performances and installations, the duo has built a machinery of sensations that encircles the audience, overwhelms the senses, attacks and touches. The artist quartet gelatin, masters of mixing "entertainment and provocation" (Art), deals in life models which avail themselves directly of a place, refer back to it. Their works - and also their project Die totale Osmose (Perfect Osmosis) for the 49th Venice Biennale - provide the opportunity for reflecting on the immediate and necessary experience of the artistic process, with interactive processes playing a lead role. Exhibition Schedule: Venice Biennale June 10 - November 4, 2001
