Raw, powerful, expressive, bold—for fifty years these terms have been used to describe the internationally influential oeuvre of Georg Baselitz (*1938). His first scandalous success came in the sixties with his works on sexual themes. His later heroic pictures also signaled a new approach to updating classic figurative painting. Baselitz's Frakturbilder, and finally, his world-famous "upside-down" paintings represented his solutions to the problem of depicting content. In his latest series, Remix, the artist subjects important motifs from throughout his career to a more casual and virtuoso reinterpretation.
This retrospective monograph presents the artist's painted oeuvre, providing insight into his methods as well as his rich cosmos of ideas and thought.
