In June 2008, Christian Boros opened part of his valuable collection of contemporary art to the public in a bunker built in 1942 in the center of Berlin. Within a period of five years, this structure was renovated into a spectacular private museum with eighty rooms of different heights and not a single ray of natural light. The first permanent exhibition features selected sculptures, installations, and light and performance works, each of which refers to the special and complex spatial situation of the bunker, making it possible to tangibly experience each space. All of the works, in part reworked or recreated, were installed and set up by the artists themselves. Together with the photographs by Noshe, this volume documents the pieces in this unusual exhibition context and invites the reader to discover lesser-known stances and young talents, alongside famous figures such as Olafur Eliasson, Elmgreen & Dragset, Sarah Lucas, Tobias Rehberger, Anselm Reyle, and Santiago Sierra.
»Rarely has contemporary art been so breathtakingly presented.«

»The bunker not only bring together spectacular art, it is a work of art in itself. Those who still haven't made it themselves should certainly take a look inside the 200-page catalogue.«
