Das Zeitalter Rembrandts is a unique gathering of one hundred and forty outstanding works by more than seventy seventeenth-century Netherlandish artists from the Albertina’s collection, including Aelbert Cuyp, Hendrick Goltzius, Aert van der Neer, Adriaen van Ostade, Rembrandt van Rijn, and many others. With his technical and thematic versatility as well as his absolutely exceptional position, Rembrandt proves to be the preeminent point of crystallization.A large number of the selected works are drawings devoted to the complete composition, which was very popular in theNetherlands of the seventeenth century and, owing to the special direction taken by its founder, Albert von Sachsen-Teschen, of which the Albertina has many examples. This unique selection is supplemented by more than fourty ingenious oil paintings from different collections.
