A large-format, impressive volume with over one hundred color illustrations: a complete overview of Monet's spring fields and landscape impressions.
This monograph invites the reader to contemplate the many ways Claude Monet depicted one of his main themes: fields and meadows. Starting in 1873, he began painting the fields around Argenteuil. Monet compared this cultivated land to the untouched meadows of the Seine landscapes, which he began producing in 1878 around the area of Vétheuil. After moving to Giverny, he painted one of his most important works, Fields in Spring of 1887. This painting articulates the typical Impressionist theme in its remarkably austere organization of surfaces and highly systematic palette, which marks a turning point in Monet’s oeuvre. This special-price edition was first published on the centennial of the acquisition of this painting by the newly founded Stuttgart Galerieverein .
